Prefilter life is dependent on the feed water conditions. We recommend that marine systems be operated in open ocean conditions and when this is done, filters typically last a month or longer. Coastal areas with higher levels of sediments, algae, and plankton will see a reduction in filter life and we do recommend larger filter cartridges for systems operated in this environment. We use only 100% polypropylene filters in our systems which allows the filters to be washed down and reused. For land based systems, the best feed water source is from a dug or drilled well which makes use of the earth as a prefilter which provides a very effective reduction of the turbidity.
